During the heat of battle (and by battle, I mean art prompts) that was Artfight 2024 - I started an animated attack (for a friend) that I never finished in time for the contest's conclusion. Why? Mostly because of work taking up my time during weekdays, and the amount of 2D animation it would require.
If there's one thing you should know about me, it's that I dislike working on complex 2D animations - especially on my own. And this wasn't a simple thing either - this was 233 frames of hand drawn, frame-by-frame animation! There was no shot that I'd be able to get it finished for the contest, but I have more time now that my contract has finished - so this post has all the work I've completed on it so far:
I knew what I wanted to create - but had no idea as to how I was gonna time everything. Usually, when working alone on short loops, I tend not to cut the storyboard into a rough animatic - but for the sake of this I knew I needed to.
The original previs didn't have sound, but I recently thought it would be best to do the sound design now - all of the accreditations for sound are included in the video's description!
I am currently in the process of finishing up the rough 2D animation - although I haven't touched any of it for a while. Only the purple and red characters have been fully blocked in so far, and the yellow one is still in progress.
I have no idea how long this will take - but when it's done I'll be pretty proud of it I'm sure!
